James Stewart: A Wonderful Life (1987) (TV)

A retrospective on the life and career of actor James Stewart with the star himself and hosted by his longtime personal friend Johnny Carson. With clips from many of the films of Mr. Stewart and interviews with some of the people that worked with him during his long, long career. One of the last of the good guys from old Hollywood, there was a time when Jimmy was everywhere. Talk shows, holiday specials, gala events, TV and film, Jimmy Stewart was always a pleasant addition. Stoic, calm and quieting, let's hope his humanity lives on through his efforts.

This is episode number 309 of "The Great Performances" anthology series.

50th American Presidential Inaugural, The (1985)

This is the celebration of the second term of Ronald W. Reagan. One of my favorite selections from the entire archive. How many productions have Frank Sinatra as the Producer & Director of Entertainment? The expressions of love and appreciation are sincere and heartfelt, this is a joy to watch. More than a party, there are wonderful performances by Pearl Bailey, Mikhail Baryshnikov, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles, Mac Davis, Michael Davis, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Crystal Gayle, Rich Little, Dean Martin, Lou Rawls, Don Rickles, and Donna Summer. All exceptional, Rickles does eight minutes and kills.

Bob Hope's Yellow Ribbon Party (1991) (TV)

As part of an earlier promise to US forces, Bob Hope put on a homecoming show for US Troops who served in both the 1991 Persian Gulf War and the 1989 invasion of Panama from his Palm Springs, California home. Considered by many to be his final USO Show.

Great show, along with regulars like Brooke and Marie O, you'll see the fabulous Patti LaBelle singing like she's at a Black Tie evening event even though it's daytime and she's outdoors! Completely brings down the figurative house, she's just great. The audience is all regular folk, servicemen and women and their families. Full of pride and all sharing in their love of America and the American way. One of television's greatest hours. Bob was the man.

All-Star Party for Joan Collins (1987) (TV)

Super fun and a ton of laughs, done in the style of the "celebrity roast". The great lady had a heck of a party, you can expect to see lots of your old time favorites. In the end Joan gets serious for a second and then hands out a few shots of her own! A great American icon.
